Did Covid-19 make things worse? A new paper by Dominika Pszczółkowska, Sara Bojarczuk, Maciej Duszczyk, Kamil Matuszczyk and Emilia Szyszkowska explores the migration intentions of future Polish doctors and how these were influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic and its management in Poland. The mixed methods study (survey of final year students at medical schools + interviews with junior doctors conducted in 2022) revealed that the pandemic was of secondary importance compared to such factors as the sociopolitical situation in Poland (including hate speech towards doctors), the participants’ family situation and factors related to regular work conditions in healthcare.
