INNOVATE Project – Innovating Dialogues on Migration Policies and Practices
The INNOVATE project aims to revolutionize the dialogue on migration policies by developing innovative processes that cater to the needs of researchers, policymakers, migrants, and other stakeholders across governance levels. Funded by the EU, the project seeks to establish Migration Research-to-Policy (MR2P) collaboration as a reliable resource supporting policy creation by promoting research evidence, research exchange, engagement platform, and training center. The project prioritizes migrant-centered co-creation and mutual learning among stakeholders.
Objectives of the INNOVATE Project:
1.Establishing the MR2P Collaboratory as a key resource promoting the utilization and valorization of research evidence for policy creation.
2.Developing coordination and support actions based on migrant-centered co-creation principles.
3.Creating opportunities for mutual learning among researchers, policymakers, citizens, and individuals with migration experience.
4.Engaging with strategic stakeholders at all stages to enhance engagement throughout the project.
5.Designing Process Innovation Actions to encourage utilization and valorization of knowledge and foster mutual learning on key MR2P topics.
6.Incorporating flexibility to address new and emerging issues.
7.Expanding the strategic scope of work by complementing existing European networks and evidence sources.
8.Providing insights from behavioral sciences to enhance work on narratives, frames, and perceptions.
9.Developing measurable indicators of project success and impact in building capacity, incentivizing engagement, increasing demand, and uptake.
The project is led by Andrew Geddes from the Migration Policy Centre (EUI, Florence). The INNOVATE project will conduct a series of process innovation experiments to bridge the gap between migration research and policy. The project team will collaborate with numerous strategic partners through seven ‘living labs’ to test different approaches and tools to facilitate stakeholder engagement and assess their impact on research-policy dialogue.
Role of CMR UW in the INNOVATE
Centre of Migration research will be involved 7 work packages, leading one of themWP5: Process Innovation Actions No. 2 „Large-scale displacement”.
Objectives of PIA 2:
1.Identify the critical gaps in local responses to large-scale displacement in Germany, Poland and Turkey
2.Develop experimental actions to be determined during the project following two-way policy dialogue between researchers and practioners.
Description of the tasks:
1.Establish round table with representatives of the city hall, NGOs, migrant organizations, business organisations, trade unions, internationals organisations (IGOs and INGOs).
2.Prepare benchmarks of local responses to large scale displacement and identifying critical gaps based on initial assessment conducted in each city (including insights from the sounding board and deliberative polls) and the validation of existing research.
3.Design and implement experimental actions in close collaboration with local stakeholders.
4.Evaluation in a dialogue process with stakeholders of the experimental action.
5.Create resources for MR2P Collaboratory.
Role of participants:
– create roundtables and prepare benchmarks in each of the three participating cities;
– design experimental intervention;
– insights into research and engagement.
