Labour Market Discrimination in a New Immigrant Destination Country: a Mixed Methods Approach (LabMad).
LabMad is a research project on labour market discrimination in Poland as a new country of immigration. It examines how employers make recruitment decisions about candidates of different ethnic backgrounds and genders, what role labour market intermediaries play in these processes, and how migrants themselves navigate barriers and discriminatory practices. The project focuses especially on the hiring stage, where unequal treatment is often difficult to detect despite its major consequences for career opportunities and social integration. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study combines the analysis of job advertisements and secondary data with interviews with employers, intermediaries and migrant workers, as well as a field experiment designed to capture discrimination as it happens. By bringing these perspectives together, the project will provide a deeper understanding of how inequality is produced in the Polish labour market and how migrants respond to it in practice.
