We are thrilled to announce that Dr Agnieszka Radziwinowiczówna (Centre of Migration Research, University of Warsaw) has secured a €1.5M #ERC Starting Grant for her project, REDIRECT (2027–2032).
Her planned research – the first Polish ERC grant dedicated to contemporary migration – will rigorously investigate why deportations to dangerous countries (e.g., Afghanistan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela) are being re-legitimised. By examining legal, political, and social dynamics across Poland, Germany, and the US, #REDIRECT challenges traditional views on state sovereignty, offering a transformative, transnational framework for understanding deportations within contemporary migration regimes and geographies of power.
Agnieszka has previously won NCN SONATA 16 and OPUS grants, Minister of Science’s Scholarship for Outstanding Young Scientists and was a MSC Fellow at University of Wolverhampton and recipient of Fundacja Kościuszkowska Polska scholarship at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
