The Joanna Matejko Awards

 

In the 4th edition of the competition, a record number of 15 doctoral dissertations were submitted. The high quality of the works made the selection process exceptionally challenging for the jury.

31.03.2025 The Competition Jury decided to award two ex aequo prizes in the Joanna Matejko Competition for the best doctoral dissertation on international migration from and to Poland and on the Polish diaspora:

Ms Anna Dolińska, PhD (University of Warsaw, Faculty of Sociology) for the thesis entitled ‘Kariera i tożsamość w perspektywie pracy biograficznej. Analiza doświadczeń wysoko wykwalifikowanych migrantek z Ukrainy, Białorusi i Rosji w Polsce po 1989 roku’, written under the supervision of Anna Horolets, Ph.D. and Sylwia Urbańska, Ph.

Ms. Monika Szulecka, Ph.D. (Institute of Legal Sciences, Polish Academy of Sciences) for the thesis entitled ‘Kryminologiczne aspekty funkcjonowania uproszczonej procedury dopuszczania cudzoziemców do rynku pracy w Polsce’, written under the supervision of Dr. Witold Klaus, Prof. INP PAN.

The founder of the prizes in the competition is Agnieszka Matejko, daughter of Dr Joanna Matejko, a Polish historian and activist in the Polish diaspora in Canada, who researches the history of the Polish diaspora in Canada and the development of the country’s immigration policy.
