mgr Jeremy Caldeira

Jeremy is currently a research assistant assisting the CMR with the research programme “Between Ukraine and Poland” and other projects related to Ukrainian refugees. Jeremy is also currently a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Social Sciences, UW, in the discipline of Economics and Finance. His research explores the return intentions of Ukrainian refugees in Europe, aiming to identify what factors influence both intentions, and later also actual movement, whether back to Ukraine or onward to a third country. He uses economic frameworks and methods augmented by multidisciplinary approaches, aiming to fully understand the phenomenon of return migration.
Jeremy previously graduated from the University of Warsaw Faculty of Economic Sciences with a Master’s in International Economics, and earlier from Western Washington University (USA) with a Bachelor’s in Economics, with specializations in Statistics and International Studies. He wrote and defended his Master’s thesis on “Navigating Aspirations and Capabilities: Ukrainian Refugee Integration in Poland’s Labour Market” using data from the CMR and in tandem with Dr. Kaczmarczyk. This paper was later awarded a top prize at the 27th edition of the Instytut Pracy i Spraw Socjalnych’s best master’s thesis competition in the area of labor market issues, specifically in the area of “labour law and collective labour relations.”
Furthermore, Jeremy has been recognized for his contributions as a student and driver of further internationalization at Polish universities, winning “Best International PhD Student” at the 2026 edition of the InterStudent competition.
