dr Katarzyna Kubin

She earned her PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. At the Centre of Migration Research, she is a member of the Socio-cultural Research Cluster (Zespołu Badań Społeczno-Kulturowych).

Her research lies at the intersection of theories of de/postcolonialism and postsocialism, while drawing from the new materialism, critical theory, and queer theory. Her current research interests focus on the experience and process of racialization in different local contexts in response to the migration of people and ideas, as well as on applying a de/postcolonial lens to Eastern and Central Europe.

She is also engaged in non-government sector initiatives. She is a member of the Advisory Board of the Alliance for Black Justice in Poland (BJP). In 2007, she co-founded and is currently a member of the Supervisory Board of the Foundation for Social Diversity (FSD)/Fundacji na rzecz Różnorodności Społecznej (FRS). In 2017 she was distinguished by the POLCUL Foundation (Fundacja im. Jerzego Bonieckiego) “for creating the Foundation for Social Diversity, which pursues educational activities that advance social integration and equality.”

She has (co-)edited and (co-)authored books and articles that address issues of diversity, equity and inclusion, especially focusing on equal access to education for children with a migration background. Her text, which introduced the method of „discrimination tests” in Poland and analyzed Polish media discourses about Black people, Africans and migrants, was distinguished in the “Media and Equality” program run by the Polish Ombudsman for  Equality (2012/2013).
