Max Nagel is a post-doctoral researcher at the IAW Institute for Labor and Economy, University of Bremen, and visiting scholar at Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies, Cologne (starting April 2023). His research interests revolve around international/comparative political economy with a particular focus on the governance of financialization and international migration. He was awarded a doctoral degree from the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences, Scuola Normale Superiore in Florence, Italy. Previously, he received a graduate degree in Economic and Financial Sociology from Goethe University Frankfurt (Germany) and an undergraduate degree in International Economics and Development from Bayreuth University (Germany). Additionally, he has held positions as a visiting scholar at University of Warsaw, Sciences Po, Central European University, and University of Pennsylvania (USA). His work appeared, among others, for Cambridge Journal of Economics and The Pacific Review. His book The Governance of Financialization in Latin America and East Asia will appear this year (RIPE Series in Global Political Economy Series, Routledge).
During his stay at CMR in Warsaw, he will investigate attitudes of Polish meso level actors toward large-scale emigration in the context of a DFG-funded research project (
https://www.uni-flensburg.de/en/paradoxes-of-eu-free-movement). Furthermore, he investigates change of migration, financial, and economic policy change in Poland over the 2010s.
