dr Aneta Piekut

Member of the Centre of Migration Research UW since 2005. In 2010 obtained a PhD degree in Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology, University of Warsaw. In 2010-2014 she worked as a post-doctoral researcher for the LIVEDIFFERENCE research programme at the Universities of Leeds and Sheffield. Currently, she is a Senior Lecturer at the Sheffield Methods Institute, University of Sheffield (since 2014). Aneta is also a co-director of the Migration Research Group at the University of Sheffield.
She is a sociologist specialising in migration and ethnic studies, including measurement of attitudes, migrant integration and segregation. Aneta sits on the editorial board of IMISCOE Springer Book Series, Central and Eastern European Migration Review (CEEMR), Polish Sociological Review and is an associate editor of Journal of Statistical and Data Science Education (an official publication of the American Statistical Association). In 2021, she joined Project TIER Executive Committee.
She published widely in leading academic journals on issues of migration, ethnicity and segregation (e.g. European Sociological Review, Sociology, Social Science Research, Social & Cultural Geography, Journal of Economic and Social Geography (TESG), International Sociology), and in 2017 she won the prestigious SAGE Prize for Innovation and Excellence awarded by the British Sociological Association’s (BSA) for a paper published in Sociology journal.
